CCL: FISH AND CHIPS

  The most famous dish in the United Kingdom is FISH AND CHIPS. The fish is coated in flour and batter. Then it is fried in oil. Traditionally, it is served together in newspaper. Many people in the UK eat it with vinegar!

CCL: THE CLIFFS OF DOVER

       The Cliffs of Dover The Cliffs of Dover are giant white cliffs along the coast of England. These cliffs are made of chalk. Lots of people visit them because they are so impressive, and they are a symbol of England. You can see the cliffs from France, too!

 Today, we have put up a play based on Charles Dickens's novel, Oliver Twist . We had fun and learned about one of the most famous novels written by this British author.       

WRITING JOURNAL: JANUARY AND FEBRUARY ENTRIES

 Once a week, we take our journals and write in English.  These past weeks, we have written about our favourite meals, the weather, our favourite clothes, and our family. CCL: CHARLES DICKENS DAY

Charles Dickens was a famous British writer. His best-known novels are A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations , and Oliver Twist . To remember him, we have celebrated his birthday (7th February) by acting out a short version of Oliver Twist.

CCL: BURNS NIGHT

 Robert Burns is the national poet of Scotland (1759-1796). Scottish people celebrate Burns Night by having a special supper with friends. They eat haggis, drink whisky, read poems, and sing.  We learned one of his poems, "My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose".  

CCL: SANTES DWYNWEN'S

 St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers. People in Wales celebrate Saint Dwynwen's Day by spending time with loved ones or sending out cards to friends and family. In order to know the story of this young lady, we acted out a short play based on St Dwynwen's legend.
